I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to establish a tradition of celebrating multiculturalism in Aurora. It is exciting to see the ever-evolving "face" of this town, and it is my hope that such a festival will encourage meaningful engagement for all residents.
AURORA IS IN A GREAT FINANCIAL POSITION
As a member of the Finance Advisory Committee, I am pleased to have contributed to the positive state of Aurora's current fiscal position.
ESTABLISHED INCLUSIVE SIGNAGE
I am pleased to have initiated the establishment of a bylaw that would require businesses to include either of Canada's official languages on at least 50% of their signs, while the other 50% can be in any language the business chooses. It is my belief that such a bylaw honours our great country of Canada, celebrates multiculturalism and the true spirit of inclusiveness.
OMB (ONTARIO MUNICIPAL BOARD)
I initiated a motion, ultimately passed, that will help Council make more informed planning decisions by utilizing data from past OMB decisions.
I made a motion, passed by Council, that would identify Aurora's key cultural partners and allow them to make long-term plans by granting them funding based on key performance indicators. I believe that such long-term planning is necessary for any organization to establish a vision and make meaningful plans to realize it. This process ultimately benefits our residents by improving cultural services while respecting their tax dollars.
MULTI-USE RECREATION CENTRE
I made a motion, passed by Council, to incorporate funding for multi-use sports facility in the 2018 budget in the event that the Town is able to secure land. This motion preempts the foreseeable decline in service levels resulting from an increase in population.
